The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train returns to our communities on Thursday, December 10, 2015.  The brightly lit train will arrive at West Point Douglas Road just south of the 80th St. Sieben Bridge / Belden Crossing , at approximately 5:45 p.m., time is subject to change; with a trainload of fun and entertainment.  All cash and personal care item donations collected at our “Stop” go directly to our local Friends in Need Food Shelf; serving the residents of Cottage Grove, Grey Cloud Island, Newport and St. Paul Park.

Last year our communities raised an astounding $106,275 and collected over 14,925 pounds of personal care items and non-perishable food for our local Friends in Need Food Shelf; almost one/half of its annual budget.  In the past twelve years the Holiday Train event in Cottage Grove has raised over $767,083 for our local food shelf!  Our goal is to raise $90,000 this year.

The Friends in Need Food Shelf needs your support as they are serving around 34,000 people every year with food and personal care items.  Approximately 90% of what they distribute is purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank.  The best way to support the food shelf is through monetary donations as they can purchase items at drastically reduced prices from Second Harvest.  This allows each dollar to be stretched ten times farther than if actual food is donated.  If you wish to donate items rather than money, the best things are toilet paper, shampoo, bar soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and diapers.

As always, the pride of our event is the grass-roots effort of everyone in the community – businesses, religious and fraternal organizations, schools and individuals.  All contributions regardless of the amount are greatly appreciated in our efforts to help those less fortunate in our communities.

This free event will start at approximately 5:45p.m. with a welcome and followed by performances by Kira Isabella and Doc Walker.

Toiletry Items and cash donations will be accepted. All proceeds will directly benefit Friends in Need Food Shelf.
